Gouache Cactus Painting
This vintage-style botanical chart gathers a whole collection of cacti and succulents across a warm, cream-toned background. Tall ribbed columns rise through the centre, crowned with blooms in pink, scarlet and golden yellow, while smaller barrel cacti, flat prickly pads and neat rosette succulents cluster around them, each numbered like a page from an old natural-history plate. The gouache-style rendering gives every spine, flower and fleshy leaf a soft, painterly finish, and the faded labelling adds to the sense of a treasured antique study. It reads as both a decorative piece and a quiet celebration of desert flora.
The chart evokes the curiosity of an old herbarium and a genuine love of plants in all their odd variety. It works wonderfully in a kitchen, a plant-filled conservatory or running up a stairwell, bringing scholarly charm to otherwise plain walls. The muted sage greens and faded reds settle easily against off-white or putty-toned decor and warm timber furniture, and the upright format suits a tall, narrow space. A characterful piece that rewards a closer look every single time you stop in front of it.
