Chalk white mineral terraces step down through the lower two thirds of this tall painting, each shelf brimming with still turquoise water that spills gently over the rim into the basin beneath. Some pools read almost jade, others a pale aquamarine, and the wet stone between them holds a faint blue reflection of the sky above. Along the ridge, a band of dark green trees and a few low buildings mark the edge of the plateau, with hazy violet mountains rolling out behind them. Overhead, enormous cumulus clouds pile up in cream and grey, their edges lit apricot against a clear turquoise sky. The paint is applied smoothly throughout and the whole scene feels wide open, cool and strangely silent.
The theme is the slow architecture that water builds out of stone over centuries. Hang it in a double height living space where the upright format can stretch upward, or in a guest room above the bed for a restful first impression. Turquoise, chalk and soft apricot harmonise easily with pale oak, brushed steel and warm ivory. A landscape that seems to cool a room simply by being there.
