The heart spirals inward in tight overlapping folds, lit from the front so vermilion highlights ride along the ridges while the recesses fall away into deep crimson and near-black. A slender stem carries two dark leaves below, barely emerging from the shadow, and the background stays almost entirely black with only a faint red glow near its base. Oil is laid on generously, the ridge of each stroke left visible along the petal edges and the curl of the outer lip.
