Sunflower Oil Painting on Canvas
Rendered in the style of thick palette-knife impasto, this sunflower bursts from a sky-blue ground in strokes of buttery yellow and orange. The petals appear as bold, slab-like strokes of colour, while the centre swirls in russet and ochre with touches of red threaded through. Thin trickles of paint run downward from the lower leaves, and the pale blue and white backdrop is scraped and dragged to leave the canvas alive with movement. The whole flower feels spontaneous and lively, modern in spirit yet rooted in the joy of pure colour.
This piece is all about energy and contemporary style, a flower reimagined in bold, painterly strokes. It makes a confident statement on a double-height wall in an open-plan living space, and it injects warmth and personality into a bright kitchen-diner. The sunny yellows against soft sky blue keep the mood fresh, working naturally with white walls, raw concrete and pale stone floors. A vivid, hand-worked bloom that brings a jolt of optimism wherever it hangs.
