Sunflower Art Painting
Four sunflowers stand shoulder to shoulder in this watercolour study, their golden petals fanning outwards against a pale wash of sky. Deep amber centres anchor each bloom, ringed by strokes of ochre and honey that seem to hold the last of the afternoon sun. Beneath them, heart-shaped leaves in soft sage and blue-green tumble together before dissolving into runs of watery pigment that drip freely towards the lower edge. Flecks of yellow scatter above the flower heads like pollen caught in the air. The loose strokes let the white ground breathe between the petals, giving the whole row a gentle sway. There is warmth here, and the easy generosity of a field in full August bloom.
The theme is the sunflower as an emblem of light and abundance. Hung along a dining room wall above a long sideboard, its horizontal sweep carries the eye across the table and lifts the room at breakfast. The golden yellows warm pale plaster and limewashed walls, while the cooler sage and cornflower notes harmonise with linen upholstery, rattan and light oak. A cheerful chorus of blooms that keeps summer in the house all year round.
