Light pours in from the lower left in molten gold, spilling along the cloud tops and turning their undersides apricot and rose, while the far side of the sky cools into lilac and violet. The central peak is worked with fine, dry strokes that catch each ridge in warm pink and leave the sheltered faces in blue shadow, and lesser summits float at either edge, half swallowed by the vapour. Nothing of the ground below is visible, only this quiet island of rock and snow riding high above the weather. It is the view of someone who has climbed a very long way to see it, and it holds that sense of reward.

It suits a bedroom hung above the headboard, where a warm horizon is welcome at the close of the evening, or a wide landing that needs one long horizontal accent.
