A pale central vein runs through each leaf like a spine of light, branching into fine ribs that catch a low, raking glow. Behind them the background falls away into near-black shadow, so the foliage seems to lean forward out of a warm jungle night. Every curl and fold is modelled in gradations of jade, moss and pine, with a glossy, faintly waxy finish on each surface, and the smaller leaves at the edges tilt away as though pushed aside by the larger ones. Nothing moves, and yet the whole composition breathes with the humid stillness of a glasshouse at dusk.
